Mercedes-Benz: SLS AMG Black Series Caught Storming the ‘Ring

This was the sort of thing that was always lingering away in the ‘Inevitable’ files of modern Benz motoring ever since the God-of-Thunder SLS was bestowed upon the motoring landscape back in 2010 – an AMG ‘Black Series’ version of the gullwinged ‘bahn-stormer due in 2013.

Spy shots a-plenty have come scourging in from the formidable testing ground for all-things fast and rumbly over the past several months showing an SLS clad in awkward body-armour, permeating its signature bark ‘n wail throughout the twisting and diving Eiffel region. Now, fresh onto the Land o’ Internet comes this newest video showing the forthcoming SLS Black negotiating a slow-speed corner before rousing up a mechanically thunderous soundtrack to the delight of onlookers and YouTubers…

Aside from the obvious wheel-arch extensions to accomodate a slightly wider track (and wheels), the word on the street seems to be that this next AMG Black Edition will come embellished with close to (a faintly ridiculous) 650 bhp and an even-faster shifting version of the 7-speed DCT gearbox (same one used in the Ferrari 458). Shame that no proper manual transmission will ever be offered – think of how truly exciting that would be..! Hello AMG…?!?

Further details on the SLS Black are unsurprisingly scant at best for now, so why not have a gander below at the Black Series lineage so far to date in helping to remind of AMG’s bouts of occassional madness (and the not-so – hello SLK55 ‘Black’) within this often-dour automotive shift plane…

Classic Porsche Reborn: The Gullwing-America P/904 Carrera

The original Porsche 904 GTS Carrera of 1964/65 arrived at the tail-end of Porsche’s exiting from Formula 1 (in ’62) and set the stage for their ensuing dominance in subsequent road-racing efforts (take a long, well-deserved bow, Porsche 917). For homologation purposes, Porsche built 106 street-legal versions of the original 904, of which instantly deemed it a rather rare occurance to see one in-the-metal over the years…

Since then, the 904 has gathered an almost legendary plume of respect and admiration amongst Porsche enthusiasts, collectors and race fans the world over. To own an original 904 would be a dream come true… To drive one would be a treat unlike any other, as the driving-legend himself, Walter Rohrl, found out last year…

Now though, Gullwing-America has unwrapped its modern-day take on the iconic 904 with its retro P/904 Carrera. Based on the 987 (’05-’11) Boxster platform, the P/904 retains the same 3.4L engine (rated at 295 bhp) and also borrows the same slick 6-speed manual transmission, the ABS and the power-steering unit to aid in the updating of a classic design flourished with modern-day familiarities.

Those modern-day ‘updates’ include a full instrument panel and center console with Sat-nav (GPS) and an iPod dock along with air conditioning as well. Bespoke seats, dashboard and steering wheel are also part of the unique 904 re-creation process. Outside, you’re treated to LED lights, a retractable rear-spoiler, a lowered ride-height and tasty 18″ Fuchs design wheels…

Cost for the total conversion comes in at a hefty 70,000 euros (approx $91,000) not including the donor porsche Boxster… but if you already own an ’05-’11 Boxster and you’re looking to ‘upgrade’ to something utterly unique, sexy and forever desireable then this might just be what you’re looking for… I mean c’mon…. Look at it…!!

Ford Evos Concept – From Sketch to Clay to Metal – A Photo Journey

By now, most of you will have seen the finalised production pics of the forthcoming Ford Evos Concept due to be unveiled in-the-metal at the upcoming Frankfurt Motor Show in just a few days’ time. Some striking lines and themes abound, that’s for certain. Shod with all of the latest headline-tech (hybrid, of course) and some rather interesting 4-door Gullwing doors amidst a Coupe design, this front-wheel-drive concept prototype was designed to show off Ford’s newly refined ‘Kinetic 2.0’ design language from which the themes of next-generation Fords will be derived from.

From design sketches to Clay model to the final handmade product, here we present you with a photo-journey documenting the Evos’ lifespan from pencil to prototype.
